Some useful information and w ll written but I feel like most of the meat of the book was in the last 20%.

Such an interesting read about the digital age and the influences of the modern world on our declining attention spans.

The subtitle and blurb make it sound like there's going to be more actionable content than you actually get. It's more of a deep dive into the topic of divided attention, and I've read some of that previously. I might have given a higher rating if the presentation had matched the contents better.

For anyone interested in a fascinating deep dive into the science of attention, this is a must read! I learned a lot from this book and will be trying out some of the tips the author suggests.

I really wanted to give this one 5 stars but there was just one problem I had with it. The second to last chapter (Chapter 13) contains some really great - even groundbreaking - advice about how to navigate our online worlds given what we know about ourselves and attention research. The problem is it takes a bit too long to get there, and I wish the book had fleshed out each piece of advice with more specific examples and practical applications.

For example, I loved the concept of developing intentionality and awareness while on our devices, and developing forethought by visualizing what our day will look like if we make certain choices. For both of these sections, I would’ve liked to see a very specific method to do this, more examples, and perhaps even a visual aide like a flow chart of the questions to ask yourself and when.

That said, anyone with an interest in this topic will take something novel and valuable away from this book. Just go into it knowing that it’s more of a deep dive into attention research than practical, easy to apply advice. There is practical advice but you have to sift through a bit to get there.

This book included some interesting research I hadn't heard before but the advice is so basic: turn off notifications, put your phone in a different room, etc.
