This was a really nice, poignant mix of stories separated by short vignettes. I really liked that the stories and vignettes all sort of wove together to create a tapestry of the lives of Kuwaitis and of life in Kuwait during the second half of the 21st century and the early 21st century.

hmmm i have mixed feelings about this one. understandably i guess since it's a collection of short stories ;p

the language, i love! That, i would give 5 stars. beautifully written and carefully layered with enough beauty, sadness and nostalgia.

the stories themselves on the other hand were a bit tricky for me. some i absolutely loved! (especially Chinese Apples, Echo Twins and The Hidden Light of Objects.) others i didn't like how they felt. i don't know how to explain it, but i felt like punching some of the lines/paragraphs in some stories. does that make sense? lol i don't know. some stories left me smiling despite the underlying sadness in the background. and others left me a bit...i don't know.

but i have to say again, the language and the descriptions at certain parts, were beautiful.

Mixed bag, just like every other short story colection I've read. It was a good insight into life in Kuwait and only for that it was worht the read.
