Star Rating: 3 just 3.....

The Push is a tautly written, dark psychological thriller about mothers and daughters.

I found the plot riveting and twisted, but at the same time, something was lacking, which I am going to blame on the main character/narrator and the structure of the plot. I was trying to empathize with her, but I found myself not really caring. She was distant and cold (for good reason). I would have rather witnessed the events and come up with my own interpretation than be told what was happening. I get the format and the purpose of the way the story unfolds, but I wasn’t feeling it.

Parts of the plot were fascinating, others I felt like I was waiting for something to happen already. The plot has some creative elements, and the ending was jarring (in a good way).

Overall, this didn’t quite live up to the hype for me. There were elements I enjoyed, but in the end, I had trouble connecting and fully immersing myself in the narrative. I read with a continuous sense of underlying dread and felt a weight lift when I finished reading.

I really liked this one. The only thing that made it less than 5 is the ending fell a little flat to me. But it was still very enjoyable and very gripping at times.

Good, just not really my cup of tea. Was expecting more twists and shocking moments. Reminded me of the perfect child a lot. But I did enjoy it, a very easy read.

Wow!! The Push is a truly phenomenal read, one that completely captivated me from the get go. I ended up reading it in one sitting because I couldn’t bring myself to put it down! I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a one of kind read!

I both could barely put this down and had a horrible miserable time reading it

I spent the majority of this book thinking that Blythe was an unreliable narrator, that she was projecting her negative feelings about motherhood onto her daughter.

But after I put it down, I couldn't stop thinking about how much Blythe questioned her own sanity and perception of things. She was isolated - all she really had was Fox, a husband who invalidated her in so many subtle, insidious ways. He spent their marriage alternating between love bombing her and convincing her that she was the problem and no one else, all while permitting and enabling Violet's bad behaviour. He ignored and dismissed any evidence that gave credence to Blythe's concerns, and I found myself dismissing all that evidence too until that last chapter.

It's like Fox had gotten into my head too, making me question what I was reading, the way Blythe questioned her own experiences.
