I honestly forgot how gory this book was u til I read it again, so if you have a weak stomach, I'd suggest another book. This book was an interesting read because I forgot how strong Anita was after receiving help from Jean Claude, but it frustrates me how she keeps refusing him. I get why she doesn't want to be around him or even be his human servant, but as he's told her, she can benefit so much from taking the last two steps to being a true human servant if she'd just do it.

yet again
Once again, Laurell does a great job of expanding the world that is all thing supernatural. Vampires, animators, ghouls, ghosts, zombies, necromancers. This is only the start. I know it gets heavier as the series progresses.
This book felt like a small step in the right direction but overall unnecessary. Whereas Anita has become more powerful, it only whispers at the promise of more. Jean-Claude remains a mention and the idea of a story that embodies more than supernatural murder feels very far away.
I recall feeling frustration at the start of the series. I know her world unravels but I don’t think that happens until much, much later. While I want to keep reading, I fear I may tire of the same thing.
There’s a lot of things I want to talk about. For starters, if I hear the word “chica” one more time, I might pass out. Laurell does a lot of research with some things but others are…eh. Her knowledge of Mexican or even South American language and mannerisms felt pushed. Was the chica supposed to feel like more?
Eh. I’ll keep reading. Too tired to expand on this review.

From bad to worse. Internalized misogyny? Check. Ableism? Check. Racism? Horrid jokes while throwing the body parts of dead children? Weird religious inclusions? Check, check, and check.
I'm furious at how bad this book was. Anita Blake is the singular worst heroine I've ever read.

The writing in this book was a step up from book 1...at least there weren't as many "naws" (although there were "naws" on page 4 AND 5, but I digress). Reading the Anita Blake books is like eating a huge bowl full of candy -- the process is enjoyable and you're full afterwards, but you still feel a little empty, like you should've eaten a real dinner.

This is the second book in the Anita Blake series.
I don't know what made me wait this long to read the second book although I totally enjoyed the first one.
Harold Gaynor offers Anita a million dollars to rais an ancient zombie, but since that means sacrificing a white goat, she declines.
Then a the most dangerous voodoo priestess offers a partnership with Anita that she also declines.
Meanwhile dead mangeled bodies are turning up everywhere, which means a serial something is out there, could it be a killer zombie? If it is who raised it and lost control?
While all this is happening Jean-Claude the gorgeous hot vampire is insistant on making Anita his human servant :D
This was an action packed that reads so fast, it's an amazing book that I enjoyed greatly!!
The third book is already ready to be read :)
You ROCK Anita!!
