I found the stream of consciousness style of writing difficult to get into. It made the reading experience slightly frustrating as the storyline didn’t evolve in a logical way and required a lot of focus to keep track of what was going on.
I was bored as fuck and didn’t understand most of this so yeah.

Tfw Joyce included a hellfire sermon to show how he was traumatized by it but the whole time I was just like "this is actually a very good examination of conscience"

The beginning of the book is almost like a song, the childish thoughts were frustrating to read and try to put together. It was an impressive look at growing up, as Stephen's mind changes. We experience his shame during puberty, questioning of his faith and God, peer pressure, alienation, and loyalty to one's family/country/religion. I hope to read this again someday, if only to experience Joyce's foul-smelling, dark, blazing hell again.
