A fun and interesting novella that gives a lot of new perspective of the events from the original Mistborn trilogy. A refreshing and engaging return to Kelsier’s story, reminding me of just why I loved his character in the first place. Also interesting to see more world building as Brandon Sanderson continues to flesh out his shared universe even further, and this book definitely begins to show how some of the strings attach while still leaving plenty of mystery.

This book was the closure I needed! Some things about the ending of the Mistborn trilogy didn't sit right with me and this solved them all. To avoid spoilers, I will just say everything makes sense to me now and I loved following the main character and seeing where he takes himself and how this sets up for further books. I'm obsessed.

Mistborn: Secret History is a behind-the-scenes story of the Mistborn trilogy. It follows SPOILER, and I enjoyed this part the most. SPOILER is one of the best characters in the series, but there's a sad lack of him throughout, for reasons, of course. This does recontextualize some of the Mistborn events, and this was . . . fine. It didn't really add all that much, except for the expansion of the metaphysical worldbuilding.

The sad part for me, is that I think about half of this book kind of relies on established Cosmere lore, none of which I know. Characters appear kind of randomly, and it FEELS like they're supposed to be recognizable and important, but for me there was no context.

Now, this is mostly from my own personal experience because normally people would read this in a Cosmere collection, but I wanted to read it independently so I bought it this way. Most others will not have this experience.

Fine book, even better for diehard fans of the Cosmere.
