A beautiful book about family, love, loss, and hope. What secrets can do to a family and finding healing in spite of broken trust. Feeling lost between worlds and finding a home. Also a great mystery with beautiful magic.

i was swept away in this story, caught up in the magic, in the way it made me feel. this multi-generational family saga is seeped in secrets, in Ecuadorian culture, in love and care. it’s about the ways those who come before us seek to protect us, even at their own expense

it’s absolutely beautiful

I wanted to give this book 5 stars, but the random explicit sex scenes including teenagers really put me off.

Absolutely loved this. The books that are emotionally challenging to read are usually the best ones to read and this was a great example. Loved the takes on generational trauma, and vulnerability. Loved the magical realism and fantastical aspects too. And mainly loved the lesson abiut how chosen family can help you in the midst of challenges :)

Aghhhhhh this book ripped out my heart and I said thank you. Achingly beautiful take on generational trauma and vulnerability and domestic abuse, and I'm very excited to discuss this with friends for a casual book club!

Zoraida Córdova’s writing style is beautiful and I enjoyed every minute of her words and the characters she created, especially Marimar and Rey. The story is very unique (although it kinda gives me evil Encanto vibes lmfao) and how magic is treated by the characters is a bit refreshing, like it’s an inconvenient mystery.
My main criticism is the how underwhelming the climax and twist villain was compared to the first three parts of the book.

Very intense! I loved the whole family and their issues, and also the weird twists and turns of the magic that ran through it all.
