Lovely second chance romance, loved the main characters. The writer did a great job of making a rockstar character 3D and plausible. Really enjoyed.

After an eventful early twenties, Nicole calms it down and gets involved with a stable man. When she finds out he has done her wrong and her ex best friend shows up across the street, Nicole's life changes drastically.
Opinion
This book was a fabulous read. I found my mind wandering to what was happening in the plot while at work. Nicole's story offered an escape during my busy, stressful life.
I think what I loved most about it was that Nicole rubbed elbows with the rich and famous and even became best friends with one of them. I'm sure we all have had a daydream about similar situations.
This is a great summer read.
Many thanks to Net Galley and to Boldwood Books for providing me with an ARC of this book.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with a copy of Ex in the City by Portia MacIntosh  in exchange for an honest review.

Unfortunately this book was not for me. I didn’t like the dynamic at all - living with your ex (who might not technically be your ex yet?) and his children, saying you’re staying for them when you do actually plan on leaving soon anyway? It didn’t make sense. It was awkward and uncomfortable and all I ended up focusing on was feeling sorry for the kids instead of the second chance romance that was supposed to be the focus point. Ultimately, I ended up DNF’ing this at 40% as I had no interest in continuing the story and I felt like the couple definitely should have stayed in the friend zone.

This is friends to lovers to strangers to lovers, one of us is famous trope. These aren’t my favourite tropes to begin with which might have affected my enjoyment.

Roses: Nicole is a rockstar herself. She is strong-willed but not stubborn, empathetic and selfless but not like a pushover. She sticks to her guns and doesn't allow people to manipulate her choices, which is great to see in a lead female character. Dylan is the best reformed bad boy. He changes for the better, and seeing him trying so hard to show Nicole that he's different and not how he used to be was super sweet and endearing. Their relationship was a great second chance/friend to lovers. They are the definition of meant to be but just at the wrong time. However, their second time around was worth the wait to experience, and they deserved the HEA.

Thorns: I thought the Rowan situationship was annoying and drugged out for too long. In the beginning, it took five chapters to explain what he did that finally made her want to leave him. I also thought because of this, I started to get turned off by the story cause it made Nicole look like she was willingly this guy's fake girlfriend or something weird. I don't know; it just didn't sit well with me. Also, the whole mean-girl mom pose was a bit blah. I know they added to the drama later, but at the same time, they were pointless. I didn't particularly appreciate how long it took Nicole and Dylan to own up to their feelings for each other, especially Nicole. Dylan was dropping little hints about how he felt but never fully said, but Nicole never caught on, which was annoying. Cause with other parts of her life, she is super smart and notices things; however, she misses the mark when it comes to herself.
