I felt like I had missing pages of the book. Three stories all in one. Very cloud atlas like but about a couple from different points of views. No clear ending?

This story is best summed up by Hamilton’s “Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story” as we read a version of a story told four ways.

I didn’t fully comprehend this at the beginning having been recommended the read and promised a good time. It was slow. And full of financial jargon and historical references that a more well read person may understand but it was a struggle.

But out of that struggle came the stories. The shift in tone. Of what is said and controlled and left unsaid and changed.

One of the main characters of these stories says it best in that his job was to “bend and align reality”. We are shown the bends and at times breaks.

This is the densest of my reads in recent memory and is one that I will likely need to pick up again and again to learn more. There will always be something for a reader to discover in ‘Trust’.

I liked it less the farther into it I got. I went in knowing nothing so I was pretty confused until about half way. Felt like there was a lot of build up to drama that never happened.

A somewhat experimental novel set in New York during the interwar period. It's mostly  about trying to assemble the truth out of multiple contradictory and self-serving narratives. It also depicts complex relationships, some annoying old-fashioned gender dynamics, and a unique mix of love and resentment.
