I wanted this book to work for me, but it sadly didn’t. I l really liked the guys in the book. I thought they were sweet and just the right amount of overbearing and caring. They were the best part of the book for me. Sadly, I think the fast burn and then individual scenes after the heat is what didn’t hit the mark. In an omegaverse, I want some really juicy and delicious group scenes and I only felt like there was ever just the one. Don’t get me wrong, the 1:1 bits were also good, they just weren’t what I was wanting from an OV right now. Beyond that, I didn’t connect with Esme’s character and found her a little blah. But honestly take this whole review with a grain of salt because I read this book in the wee hours of the morning (from like 2:30-8am) and with no sleep. 🙃

This book was just as good as the rest of the series. I read the Slate Ciry Omegaverse in weird order, 2, 3 and now 1. This book follows Esme who comes from a rich and world-known family. However, in the media, she is Eva's, her twin's, shadow. Due to this, she is perceived as the bad twin and everyone uses her to get to Eva. But not this pack of alphas and a beta - Bennett, Luke, Avery, Kade and Rylan. They are scent-sympathetic and Ben and Esme scent eachother at an exclusive party at the Pavillion. Ever since then, the pack has done everything and anything to show Esme that she is their perfect omega and that they will never settle for anyone other than her and they will wait for as long as they have to until she feels the same way they do. But Esme is very insecure due to how everyone has come to perceive her, whether it is true or not. They do manage to help her overcome these opinions and help her grow in her confidence. 90% of the book was about her accepting them and her chance at having a pack who finally see HER and not Eva and only the last couple of pages focus on their life after bonding. I don't have anything bad to say about this book, like all three books in the series, the middle was a little slow and they could've been shorter, but I enjoyed them nevertheless.

Story: 2.5/5 ⭐️

It took me about 50 ish pages to get into the story but after that i was hooked. If you’re unfamiliar with the omegaverse, in my opinion it’s a lot like a dom-sub (alpha-omega/beta) relationship mixed in with a RH. In this one, we follow Esme and her journey to finding a pack. After trial and error with a lot of obstacles, she finds one wanting to court her.

Each member bring something to the table. And different bonds/relationships with each.

Ben (Bennett) : he’s an alpha, but other than being a dom and smelling like cupcakes we don’t get much from him in the book.

Luke/ Avery :Alpha, dom, very nuturing/protecting. Not only for her but for the rest of the pack. Esme usually talked to him first about things or Avery who is the same but instead of being rough, he’s very gentle and goes slow in the best kind of way for Esme.

Kade: Alpha, dom and loves primal-play (mostly the chase from what i understood) but there are different forms of primal-play.

Rylan: Beta, switch maybe, he doesn’t feel the same needs Alphas do. But because he isn’t one, he has a more level headed mind when it comes to her needs. He’s a lot more playful in the sense he’s the youngest one of the pack and to me came off as it being he’s like a friends-lovers type relationship with her.

Wow

What a book!! I absolutely loved every single second of this and know how it feels to live in someone else's shadow. Amazing story and characters

10/5

This was…not that well written but it was catchy and funny and steamy. Not sure I’ll continue the series.

The beginning chapters seem to be written in the past tense and is hard to follow, and the conflict is a bit stupid about being in the shadow of the sister and then following into a river? Felt off the mark.
