Gave this audiobook a 3 because it was incredibly predictable with some annoying characters, yet, it was enticing enough to want to continue reading it. Obviously it was the daughter that did it. But even greater of a pain were the characters. The husband continuously gaslit her, yet she never tried to actual put her foot down which made her sort of whiney. There was a lot of plot flaws- there is no way she wouldn’t happen to mention the party to her husband prior to the day of or that she wouldn’t confirm if the daughter was acting shady 24/7. I think what redeemed this for me was the ending - the way the grandma is like lol no she crazy, I just let her come around so she thinks she’s in my will so she doesn’t kill me in my sleep.

So many twists but really flat. The story just drags on. Very predictable.

4 ⭐️ If you’re looking for a book you never want to put down, this is it. The great writing built the suspense and made the characters feel as real as fictional characters possibly can. This is a physiological thriller that will make you suspect everyone involved and will have you in a constant state of confusion and doubt.
Although I did realize the truth before it was told I would not say that it was predictable, with twists and turns at every chapter.
Since I listened to it as an audiobook I got an extra layer to the suspense, with a narrator that only added positive points to the story.
Over all a great book that will drag you into the story directly and leave you wanting more in the end.

Not Oscar coming thru at end and being the breakout star of this entire book. Go ahead doggie.

By chapter 29 (a lot of the chapters are short) the book became redundant. I was truly over it.

When chapter 7 started this was my face until the end 🫤😑 because like be so for real. I would have dnf this book if i wasn’t buddy reading. The only good thing about this book was the audio. The plot could have been executed well but no it wasn’t. Jo is such an airhead with no backbone. I tried to root for her but gave up very soon. Yall know that SpongeBob scene where that fish says “oh brother, this guy stinks!” well that’s all i kept thinking. Like girl you literally let them play with your top. I don’t know if the author was trying to piss me off but where in the hell was the motherly instinct? It’s wasn’t like Jo was hurting and could have easily pack her and the baby up to move. There’s no reason Jo should have let the disrespect from Chloe slide. This is the first time yall are meeting and you just take that? Once again let’s be so for real.

Richard was so disrespectful. How you tell your wife’s business to your daughter but all of sudden Jo has to talk to Chloe about her business? Are you kidding me? Then Jo didn’t check him at all. Now you’re cracking jokes with Chloe about Jo in front of her. As well as saying slick shit about your wife. I feel like both Chloe and Richard were in on this together. Like if you truly wanted to protect your wife and baby from Chloe then why let her stay? Then on the other hand Chloe if you’re saying your dad is going to hurt them then why not be nice to Jo up front, get to know her and then have a deep conversation with her? Like both of them are psychos.

Lastly, how you pick up a sleeping baby like that and hold them that way? And then the feeding scene in the nursery? Like come the heck on. I needed the author to make Jo have some thump about herself.

This book is like candy. It's addictive, but not necessarily good for you. I finished it in a span of a couple days, so it really is a page turner.

However, the characters are all awful. Every single one. Like another reviewer said, the dog is the only redeeming character in this book. I only gave this book 3 stars instead of 2 because the dog made it out alive.

The protagonist is wildly stupid, and the book could have easily ended before page 100 if she had two brain cells to rub together. Most normal mothers would pack up and leave if they felt their newborn baby was under the same roof as a murderer. I don't know why she kept staying in that home. The character had the money to leave and stay in a hotel, but I know the book wouldn't exist if the protagonist acted in a reasonable manner.

Still, it was a fun read. Also, fuck the husband. He deserved what happened to him.
