Sallie is the daughter of the most powerful man in town. He may be powerful but man what a jerk! Sallie wanted nothing more than to be reunited with her father, Duke. After many years apart they are finally together only for tragedy to strike again and again. As much as everyone else in this book sucked, Sallie is a real rockstar. Always doing what’s right and not letting people walk all over her. This was the first read for my new book club! Looking forward to getting other takes and compare notes!

3.5 stars - A story about a bootlegging mountain queen, her origins and her family. This book is inspired by a historical woman, i’m going to point to this as the reason certain angles of this story don’t work for me. Real life doesn’t play out with a perfectly wrapped theme or pattern.
