I think I went into this with the wrong expectations and that’s my fault. I think people will enjoy this book but o personally felt extremely disconnected with Anne. Maybe I should just go ahead and actually read this classic

After reading Jane & Edward by Melodie Edwards, her modern-day retelling of Jane Eyre, and loving it, I knew I had to read her next book. It did not disappoint. I have read Persuasion, but it's been many years ago, and I couldn't remember too many details about Austen's version. It didn't matter though because I became so wrapped up in this story and the protagonist's struggles with her family and job. I loved her quiet strength and how capable she was, and I think it was easy to understand how she was so easily taken advantage of. Looking forward to the next retelling of a classic (if that's what she decides to do). Honestly, I will read whatever she writes next, it doesn't matter.

Got this as a gift from my amazing author friend Kate Jenks Landry! Signed and all :) It was Mother's Day and my birthday this week and I thought it was the perfect treat to read ha. I knew I would like it as a huge Austen fan. I didn't realize that it was set in Niagara on the Lake and had lots of references around the area. Angel Inn, Pillar and Post etc! Anne works for the Elysium Theatre ( Shaw Festival Theatre) and lives a very structured life until her life is turned upside down when her ex of 8 years shows up. I loved the build of the story and it really hit the Jane Austen spot! I really loved this book and that is taking into account Persuasion is probably my least favourite Austen novel. It was probably the right choice as there are SO much Pride and Prejudice retellings ( but never enough imo). I really enjoyed Anne's character and Ben Wentworth's for sure of course. It was RIGHT up my alley and I can't wait to read her other book Jane & Edward ( modern retelling of Jane Eyre). I hope she writes more of these I could read 100 of them. It was the perfect mix of romantic and sweet.

Waiting for a man to fall in love with me and call me the loveliest

3.5 ⭐️ I adore Persuasion, hands down best Jane Austen, so I have been anxiously awaiting this book. Ultimately it felt a little too Amelia Bedelia-esque with the goose and the pumpkin festival and other disasters. I think too much attention and time were paid to building up the lesser characters and storylines, and the yearning factor was just not there for me, it wasn’t given time and space to breathe and take root in the reader. Overall, a quick and enjoyable, albeit a little too silly, read.

3.5⭐️While I have never read an Austen book (I know I know), this was a charming and cleverly written second chance romance. There was a lot of pining and tension and the cast of side characters brought a lot of comic relief. There were some plot points I know I would have enjoyed more had I read the original Persuasion. Narrated by Rachel Perry, this was also great on audio.

Read if you like:
-Second chance romance
-Jane Austen retellings
-All the tswift references
-Forced proximity
-Small town
