I was not expecting to like this as much as I did, but I was hooked throughout! And the plot twist!!!!??? Seriously, this is one of the best books I've read this year

Really good as a whole, but a disappointing ending. I should be asleep right now.

This book was VERY long to dive into as an audio book. At normal playback speed it clocked in at 14 hours. That being said, there were so many spots that lacked movement for me, but also many times where I just could not stop listening!

A slow burn of a mystery, as the main character is quite sheltered--as would be expected for an upper-class girl of 1890--and it takes her quite a while to understand enough of how the world works to figure things out. Thus the pacing of the mystery is a bit slow; I figured out the culprit long before the MC did. But learning about the issues of the era along with the MC is fascinating, and her dogged pursuit of the truth is admirable, even when she discovers the personal cost. Very satisfying.

A very “Sherlock Holmes” mystery with a strong female character and historical setting. It was a little slow for my taste but the mystery was fun to follow.

But I want moooooore!

This book was one of those pleasant surprises that you don't know you're going to love as much as you do until you crack it open.

I love the time period, I love the bold lead Jo, I love Eddie, and I love the mystery. This book has given me so much entertainment over the last couple of days. Jo is a proper lady, does everything she's told, and has her life all planned out for her; until her father is murdered and she wants to know why. Enter Eddie, sweet sweet Eddie. Eddie wants the story, Jo wants the truth; together they are a team to be reckoned with.

I don't want to go too into detail with this book, I want everyone to go read it because it was truly an amazing book.

The only problem with this book is the end for me. I want to know what happens in Jo's future. The last page teases me so, and I want nothing more to know that she ends up doing what she loves and with whom she loves.
