The way this book is written is stunning to say the least. I had a difficult time with some of the characters and their choices but I think that’s purposeful and real. This is a book I’ll be thinking about for a long time both for it’s artistry, character study, and it’s themes. Warning (not spoiler): this is a book that makes you self reflect a lot on your own relationships and choices.

loved the Pioneers section—genius.

"'Zweisamkeit' is the feeling of being alone even when you're with other people." Simon turned to look in his husband's eyes. "Before I met you, I felt this constantly. I felt it with my family, my friends, and every boyfriend I ever had. I felt it so often that I thought this was the nature of living. To be alive was to accept that you were fundamentally alone." Simon's eyes were moist. "I know I'm impossible, and I know you don't care about German words or marriage. All | can say is, I love you and thank you for marrying me anyway."

I love this book. New top tier book. The writing is *chefs kiss* it flows so smoothly and gently pulls the story where it needs to go. I love the characters; Sam, Sadie, and Marx are the found family I want. I know next to nothing about video games and computers but that didn’t matter. This book was about video games but more so it was about stories and love and the people in our lives.

This book is phenomenal. I don't think I have ever read anything like it. Of you're a fan of video games, deep life long friendships, and authentic flawed human characterization, this is the book you need to read. Zevin wrote such a engaging story that includes the full spectrum of human experience. The happy parts were beautiful and the sad parts made me cry. The pacing was slow but I couldn't put it down for very long. A favorite book for sure.
