An interesting view on the phenomenon that is Ted Bundy. Originally published in 1981 by longtime girlfriend, Liz.

It was clear while reading that Liz was still very much in love with Ted and therefore, very confused. As a mother, it infuriated me that she was suspicious of him but still allowed him to be around her child. I cannot understand the thought process but here we are.

The writing itself is unsophisticated, but so many memoirs are. If you're looking for that, this isn't it. Like so many others, I'm fascinated by true crime so Ted Bundy is a major draw. To get some insight from a close source is such an interesting perspective.

Here are my issues with this read. For starters, the term "made love" is used countless times. No other variation is used to describe their s3x life. And it's mentioned a LOT. It reads like a love story, which in itself is icky, given the subject matter. There is an afterward by Liz for the republication that at least addresses that part.

Major trigger warnings for the contribution from her daughter, Molly.

Over all, a decent read with an interesting point of view. Most books about Bundy are focused on his crimes, the psychology and/or the victims. While it's obvious that Liz and Molly should be included in that list, they were in a different category.

Wow.. what a read.

I'm glad I read the updated/extended version as I was feeling very annoyed by Elizabeth Kendall, don't get me wrong I did feel bad for her but that state of mind she was in was hard to accept and kind of heart breaking.

Luckily years later after plenty of help and support she's in a much better place and I could end the book feeling content with how both Liz and her daughter Molly are handling things.

The story was a slow start but it was to be expected, this was a full recollection of their life with Ted Bundy so they of course started right at the beggining, when Liz first met Ted.

That being said it was written well and as the story got further in, it got much deeper and darker.

I usually enjoy crime stories but I can honestly say I can't describe this as an enjoyable read, it's heartbreaking to read this from the people that were closest to him but still one worth reading.

Although the writing isn’t particularly groundbreaking, I found this a very honest and real account. The author managed to paint a fuller picture of Bundy than I’d ever encountered before, but was careful not to romanticise or humanise him - something I was rather nervous about in the beginning ngl. Having listened to the audiobook, the most touching part for me was hearing Elizabeth and Molly Kendall voices read their respective updated afterwords.

It is difficult to put into words the emotional impact and trauma Bundy inflicted into the Kendall's lives and how strongly this novel portrays his entanglement and manipulation. This is by no means written to overshadow the atrocities Bundy committed against his victims, but to provide understanding of what Kendall endured and answer the question of how she could have been in a relationship with someone like that. I feel that Kendall did a wonderful job portraying the trials she went through while providing a inside look at Bundy and how manipulative he was. Kendall is by no means a perfect person and had her own insecurities that played into this relationship, but it is still devastating to see how Bundy ruined a large part of her life and Molly's life.

This was a very powerful memoir which afflicted me with a multitude of powerful emotions. While I am intrigued greatly by the case and documentaries of Ted Bundy, due to the fact I am native to Florida, I found myself feeling very confused at times while reading this. This was not a very long book by any means but it was very densely packed with information. Elizabeth drew insight to the side of Ted she felt the world deserved to see. Unfortunately, it did not make me feel any more sympathetic for his drive to murder the women identified and those who were not. I feel that anyone who is interested in "the other side" of a murder case story by view of a lover, friend, and in his case, sometimes,an ally, this is for you.
