After reading Ann Rule's book about Bundy, I knew I needed to read this one as well. It's a quick, fascinating read and for anyone interested in how, why Liz stayed with Bundy even after (rightfully) suspecting him for heinous crimes against women, this will offer that much needed insight. As a reader, there were definitely times when I found myself wondering how so many people were fooled... But in the case with Liz, and with Molly, there's a strong reminder here about the impact gaslighting, and other forms of abuse have on people, and the struggles to overcome and escape those relationships.

I’ve spent the bulk of my life grieving the loss of Ted’s victims. I’ve been sickened and depressed by what happened to them at the hands of someone who chose to make me a pet instead of another victim.

A challenging book worth reading. Liz bares her soul and delves deep into her complicated relationship with Ted Bundy and how it affected her and her daughter. Frequently reduced down to a jealous girlfriend or a flake to the police in the media, Liz reclaims her story and shows in aching detail the cycle of abuse and manipulation she survived while being tied to Bundy, and life after he died. Liz, if you're reading this, thank you for speaking your truth, and showing a much needed perspective.

This book talks about notorious serial killer, Ted Bundy. Proceed with caution
Here is the unfortunate thing: this is an EXCEPTIONAL story written by someone who has no gift for writing. You would think the real-life accounts of someone who lived with and loved a horrific serial killer would be scary and emotional, but you would be wrong. This book was boring. At no time did the fear seep through. Additionally, she told us she was an alcoholic who hit bottom and went into recovery. But that stress or anxiety was never conveyed. Saying "we went out and drank too much" does not pain the portrait of an alcoholic.
The new afterward - written well after the original publication - came much closer to capturing that emotion, but it was not enough.

"I had asked Ted the things I did for my own peace of mind. I needed to be sure that nothing I had done had triggered Ted's rampages."
