Daisy finds a portal to another world (realm? spiritual enlightenment?) inside her basement washing machine and tells her friend Jeanne-Claude about it. Jeanne-Claude tells everyone at school and eventually there's an all out rager at the house. I loved the art in this book but the story/text about reaching ~higher planes of existence~ felt pseudo-intellectual and generally like someone trying to make an acid trip sound more philosophical than it is. It also fell a little flat without much in the way of plot/character development.

This is such a gem: artistically beautiful (& somewhat creepy), smart writing, and wonder. I certainly think I'm particularly drawn to this "releasing yourself to the universe" sort of story (I've written my fair share) but the way this story also shows how shitty kids can be to each other (while being 'friends') is cool. Koyama Press is certainly on my radar now. Check it out.

A nice, quick, uncomplicated story involving dimensional portals, colonialism, escapism, and the allure of interiority during difficult times of trying to find yourself. The story is sparse but the illustrations, especially pages of panels showing beings transform, are inventive, beautifully rendered, and delicately printed. A great re-read!

Odd but very good! The art and lettering was fantastic! I really enjoyed the story and the contrast art.
