Perci is stuck. She is stuck in a job she hates, listening to her mother nitpick about her body, in a crappy relationship and hating herself. Still, all of that changes in a fateful dentist visit when her boyfriend dumps her live on air in exchange for concert tickets! Perci and her friend Matthias decide to create a list of anti resolutions and Perci challenges herself to try and follow them.

Nate is an excellent love interest and never brings up her weight/size as being a negative thing but the rest of the characters definitely do. As a fellow fattie some parts were quite difficult to read and it did bring back a lot of memories of when I was a teen fighting with my body and crash dieting so definitely be mindful of trigger warnings - I did cry at this book but I'm unsure if it was a response to the happily ever after (always present in a romcom) or from the memories, it stirred

The ending didn't quite feel right to me, no proper apologies are said and a certain character remains working for the family company which doesn't seem right. I also really wanted Perci to go no contact with her family but instead, she forgives them for their behaviour!?

Overall I'd give this book 3.5 stars.

Thank you Bookouture and Netgalley for the ARC!

The Do-Over is a "rom-com" about a young woman deciding to change herself and her life after her boyfriend bumps her over the radio.

Why did I put "rom-com" between quotation marks? Because this was SO MUCH more than a rom-com, and I wouldn't even describe has a rom-com, but has a novel about finding your true self and living the life YOU want, and not the life others want for you, which was surprising but well welcomed.

So here comes basically my major (and probably only) issues of the book: it was not a romance. The love story starts at more than 50% in the book, and I didn't particularly like it. There weren't well done bases or moments that made me feel butterflies in the stomach or root for them. I found it just "being thrown in it for the sake of having a love story". So yeah I expected completely otherwise and honestly a better developmented relationship.

About the whole rest: I LOVED IT. Percy's journey was soo good and lovely, I loved all the messages, I love how everyone had their reasons and no one was completely good or completely bad, I loved Mimi, I loved the personal growth.

This book definitely did tell me something and, for being a debut, it was very good and solid. If you want a light hearted (but even not that light hearted, I mean the funny moments were definitely funny but it calls you out) about self growth and living for yourself, this book is for you

I have never quite related to a character like I related to Perci.

In the beginning, she’s a bit of a mess and a smidge directionless; a plus-size people pleaser to her very core. One day just before New Years, she receives a wake up call in the form of her boyfriend of nearly a year breaking up with her via voicemail on the radio just to win concert tickets. To make matters worse, they work together at her father’s company, he’s her immediate boss, and her parents aren’t entirely on her side when they find out what he did. Naturally she makes up a fictional new relationship with her new handsome neighbor to get them off her back when her mother keeps pushing her to get back together with her dumbass ex.

The next series of events are just what a good rom-com should have: a little drama, some laughs and wisdom (provided by Perci’s amazing grandmother Mimi), a few hijinks, and some truly wonderful story telling.

I absolutely loved this book. I started reading it on Kindle Unlimited, but like the psycho I am, once I realized how much I was loving it, I bought the physical book so I can keep it on my shelves and reread it to my hearts content and stick my tabs all over the pages. I’m so glad it was recommended to me by an author who I follow and also adore, Emma St. Clair. Thank you Sharon Peterson for this delightful book. Everyone should do themselves a favor and read it.

I love reading. I love the stories, the places we can go inside the pages and the people we can meet along the way... And I especially love books that remind me how much I love to read! I loved this one so much I immediately pre-ordered a physical copy for my shelves so I can do a re-read soon! ❤️

This book was everything. Between the super cute cover/title combo, to the horribly hilarious meet cute to the seriously fantastic writing style with enough chemistry and laugh out loud moments to make an impact, Sharon M. Peterson really got it right. I related to Perci SO much and I was rooting for her from the get go!
.
Side note: the "this was a date" scene had me SQUEALING. My romance loving heart was DYING! This book should be made into Netflix romcom ASAP.
.
BLURB:
“Look, you’re a nice girl but I don’t think we should see each other anymore.” The voicemail ends and I freeze in the dentist’s chair as I realize, I’ve just been dumped on live radio.

It took the most humiliating break-up for me to see that my life is in serious need of a do-over. Cue my anti New Year’s resolutions that even I can’t fail:
Stop dating. (Men are the worst.)
Stop trying to lose weight. (I’m never giving up chocolate.)
Stop working so hard. (Selling mortgages is not my dream career.)
Stop trying to live up to unrealistic expectations. (Start living my best life.)
Stop trying to please my mother. (It’s not possible.)

But it turns out number five is harder than I thought, as she begins her campaign to get me back with my ex. So, what’s the perfect solution to keep her out of my love life? An imaginary boyfriend—at least he was supposed to be imaginary until I blurted out my neighbor’s name…

Nate, the bad boy next door with gorgeous hazel eyes, a razor-sharp jawline and a mysterious scar, might be hot, but he’s definitely not my boyfriend. Now all I need to do is stick to my resolutions while also keeping my interfering family away from my non-existent lover who has no idea that we’re fake dating. What could possibly go wrong?
