Nives is a widower from Tuscany. She just lost her husband after 50 years of marriage. Now that she is alone, she lets one hen, called Giacomina, into the house. This way, Nives can sleep again. One evening, after Giacomina stays paralyzed after watching a TV commercial, she calls the local veterinary to help her hen. But soon, this telephone call turns in a different direction, and Nives talks about their youth years and all their friends. This phone call, in the end, turns into a pretty gossipy conversation. Nives reveals some juicy details from the lives of people they both know. This simple conversation lasts for several hours, and suddenly, it is in the middle of the night.

Tell Me About It is a short and easy read that was quirky and interesting enough to keep me reading. A novella was a pleasant surprise from Italian writer Sacha Naspini.

”I would've cut my veins to wake up in the morning, find you in my bed, and say, 'Good morning, my love.' But no. For you, I was a pastime."

Books like this keep me sane. I really thought I was getting a story about a woman and her disabled chicken, but instead got handed a fable of two former lovers on an extended phone call over four decades after the affair. I think we all have people that we can imagine in that scenario—Reading about women able to stand up for themselves (and then navigate relationships) with the people that have hurt them makes me feel good. I love Nives.

Nives is a book about reflecting on the past and having regrets. If you hold on to your regrets and idealize the past forever, you might miss the good things right in front of you.
Five words to describe this book: loss, life refection, regrets, love

I loved this little novel because it felt so fresh and new - so different from the other novels I read this year. It could’ve been a play - the entire thing was ONE phone call between two people. But it was an entire story! Loved it, the language was a little salty but oh I’ll be thinking about the turns this story took for a while.

A recent widow, a chicken, and one late night conversation. This short novel definitely packs a lot into its' pages. It's also primarily composed of dialogue -- I kept thinking, 'this would make a great play,' which makes sense as the author is a screenwriter.
