Good versus evil; simple story which was just what I wanted

I've heard great things about this series, so I decided to try it even though I'm older than the intended audience. Really enjoyed it, especially how real the Drew children's relationships are with each other. They bicker like real siblings but still get along when it matters. A few times I found myself frustrated that they missed certain details I remembered, but I suppose that could happen to any protagonist, child or otherwise. Goes to show how into the story I was. Definitely looking forward to reading the next one in the series.

So many years since I read this series, and I was relieved to find they were still as good as I remembered!

There's something very comforting in going back to reread old favourites.

Funnily, I started reading Robin McKinley's The Blue Sword and lost interest around the kidnapping, but something about the prose style jogged my memory, and I vividly remembered all of her fairy tale adaptations I read as a kid. From there, I had the thought that I should reread this series because it was my favorite. It did not disappoint 2.5 decades later.

I’d forgotten what a rollicking adventure this was!
