The first in one of my favorite series as a child, The Dark is Rising, though I don't think I've ever read this one. I recommend starting with book 2, The Dark is Rising. This first is a rather slow introduction to a series. But whatever, it wasn't bad.

Reread recently and still love it.

I read this book as part of my MA course and I liked it more than I thought I would. It's definitely dated but I really enjoyed the twist on Arthurian legend and I would definitely consider continuing with the series.

Good story about three young siblings on holiday at the seaside where they find a treasure map and follow it to discover a hidden secret. With their mysterious Great Uncle Merry to watch over them and the under appreciated dog Rufus to save them when the inevitable bad guys show up, this is quite a tense and scary children’s book.

I had so much fun reading it! A page-turner, took me right back to my childhood.
