I’m still trying to figure out where all the triggers in the beginning of this book are. The author stating that this book is super dark is laughable, most of the listed triggers don’t even show up. This also is basically just an enemies to enemies and there’s zero spice. The entire character log is super misogynistic including all the female characters, why is there randomly chapters in the brothers pov that are suddenly third person when the rest of the book is first person? It ends on a cliffhanger but I have zero desire to see what happens

Meh - I do love a saucy book to read when I need to get my stats up cos I find them really easy to get through but this book was quite awful, I literally skipped a whole chapter and it didn't even seem to have much of an impact on finishing the rest of the book. There's also loads of times in the book where she tries to compare (I can't even remember is name lol) to the guy who used to abuse her and says that the MC isn't bad cos he's never physically hurt her despite him grabbing her by the throat multiple times, like girl what...you're being delulu. ALSO I know this is meant to be dark but the scene where he blindfolds her is so traumatic I really do not think it's realistic that she would still want to continue pursuing or even look at him the same way afterwards.

It is Veronica Lancet. I don't know what else I am supposed to say.
Revenge Plot.
Forced Arranged marriage.
Vicious morally dark MMC.
Tragic FMC.

It's like Veronica Lancet took my favorite micro tropes and expertly mixed them into this book.

This book opened with a warning that this is going to be dark, that not every character is redeemable and that no one is a good guy. I FINISHED THIS BOOK IN 24 HOURS. I truly love this book. I think that the writing style is amazing, the way the plot runs is so smooth. The way the trauma is handled is beautiful to see. The characters are all interesting and so dimionsonal. Have book 2 on standby, you will need it.

Let's talk POV. I love a good first person POV which is what we get, from our MFC and our MMC. BUT we also get the MMC brother (our main villain) but it's in 3rd POV. I think this is because Michele is an unreliable narrator. If I was reading his first person pov I would not believe anything. He is so paranoid that I would not trust how he perceives things. It is sooo cool that Veronica Lancet is able to do this well and smoothly.

* I received an ARC for review

Book 1 of 6 in the War of Sins series and was previously published as part of War Unfinished. Ends on a cliffhanger.

⚠️ Please heed the content/trigger warning page the author includes at the beginning of the book.

This is a dark, mafia, true enemies to lovers, forced marriage romance which deals with several heavy topics..(think Deliver Us by Pam Godwin but a bit lighter) It’s my understanding that the series will progressively get darker with each book.

First off, I’ve read this author’s work before and to be completely transparent, I am a huge fan of her writing and my expectations were high. She definitely delivers that same level of writing throughout this book.

This is not your run of the mill mafia romance, it has a substantial plot but the characters are thoroughly fleshed out. You will have lots of questions in the beginning, but just trust that the details and answers will be sprinkled throughout, so stick with it!

These are TRUE enemies to lovers..not dislike to lovers. The hero and heroine genuinely feel hatred for each other for the majority of the book for reasons the reader is clearly told, but as the story unfolds, you will also begin to piece together.

The angst and tension is through the roof, it’s very much a push and pull struggle with this couple..so if you are a fan of dark romance, high tension, and mafia romance with substance, this is definitely the book for you! I highly recommend and look forward to reading book 2!

Thank you to the author for providing an ARC for review.
Releases May 20, 2023 and will be available on KU!
