Super cute middle grade mystery - set in a candy making competition - with a wonderful message about friendship in the resolution. This was the selection for the "mother daughter book club" at my daughter's school.
I loved this book! I read it in three days. It was so good. Wendy Mass is such a great author and I loved the way she wrote Candymakers. This book is split into parts, this makes the story really interesting. The first part, Logan's story was (most-likely) the best part. I loved all of the detail. And also how the author introduced you to the character. Logan and all of the other kids in the book are such strong characters with incredible stories.
I love how Logan was the Candymaker's son. That makes it more interesting and it seems like it makes the competition more intense. I loved the setting of the candy factory. With all of the crazy rooms. This book made me think of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dhal. (I hope I spelled his name right)
I loved Miles because, he has such a fun personality. And also with his backpack and his backwards talking it makes him more interesting. At first when I was reading it through Logan's point of view I thought it was just Miles being weird. But you have to read it!!

Fun adventure that teaches about how we can all have different viewpoints and perspectives of the same situation. Also shows how people can change.
This was really cute. It follows 4 kids as they compete to make the best new candy.
It’s DEFINITELY geared towards kids. I will let my daughter read it someday, and I think she will like it.
For me- it was fine. Just a little young for me.

I really appreciated how it was written from four perspectives. I read the first and formed my judgements on the other 3 main characters, and then I had to revise my feelings as I switched to each of their perspectives- beautiful way for kids to learn that each person has their own story which affects how we approach the world and even why we do things.
Notes for parents- one character is obsessed with the afterlife, one child is dealing with a (false) death that has affected them deeply, and one character suffered through childhood burns, whose accident is discussed.
Adventurous, somewhat mystery solving, good for children 9-12.
