A fun romp of a book--I want to live at Life Is Sweet and eat chocolate pizza!
I am genuinely sorry that this book had to come to an end. I loved the format and I loved all the kids that this book focused on. This book takes place largely in a candy factory...in a really, really cool candy factory. The book focuses on four kids: Logan, Miles, Daisy, and Phillip. Logan is the lucky kid who lives in the candy factory. And for most of the 453 pages of this book, the reader gets to live there as well. So it's kind of like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, but with kids you really like instead of all those annoying ones that you were happy to see the Oompa Loompas cart away. While reading about the factory and the candy-making process, you could really tell that the author had done some research (or is, perhaps, a candy-maker herself), so you get to see a little of how something like this could come together in real life. None of the children are what they seem (in a good way), but they are all kids that 12 year old me would have loved to chum around with. All four meet when the Life is Sweet factory hosts them in preparation for an annual contest in which a 12 year old produces a new and amazing candy. I don't want to go into too much detail about what happens because part of the fun of this book is not knowing, but I highly recommend it. It brought out the kid in me and I will definitely read it to my son (it's seems like a fun read-aloud book) when he is old enough to appreciate it. I wish it was a series instead of a single book. I'm going to miss hanging out with Logan, Miles, Daisy, and Phillip.

Such a clever, unique book! I was totally not expecting that about Daisy, and Miles, and... EVERYTHING. I would definitely recommend it!
This book was clever and fun but slow. I forced myself through most of it. I might have liked it more if I were younger. It was imaginative and creative, especially with the 4 different POVs, but the pacing drove me crazy. I liked Daisy and Philip's POVs the best, though it took me several pages to realize Daisy wasn't just recounting a dream, but reality.
I really wanted to like this one, but I couldn't get into it. Logan was a little too perfect. It didn't get interesting until it got crazy...but perhaps this would appeal to younger readers?

I dunno what to give it. Don't get me wrong, it was a great book. I liked how you learned a secret about each character every time you made it to a knew section. I read this at the perfect time too: near Halloween! Great book, no rating, sorry about the really poor review
Very well crafted mystery with plenty of action and well developed characters! With each new narrator we add a level of knowledge and understanding of what is going on at the candy factory now and what happened in the past. It reads fast despite the high page count. Also includes lessons on doing the right thing without preaching.
Modernized Willy Wonka. Fun, but the mystery is hokey. Really, I mean, the special thing in the chocolate no one else can know about is you? Sounds like brainwashing the masses to me.
So sweet! Pun intended. Good audiobook. At first I thought it started out too much like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - kids go to a closed to the public candy company by special invite. But then it definitely goes in a new and delightful direction. I liked the way the story is told from each of the kids' perspectives. Some heavy topics covered well, but target audience is tween, too heavy for any younger. Highly recommend to all tween and older.
