I liked this one even more than Gideon but I did have to do a re-read to get everything straight here as well. Again with the names but also multiple people with the same names, plus timelines plus reality shifts and ghosts is a lot the first time through but there's so much there I feel like I could find more and more any time I read this one. 

There's also a ton of christian allegory, of which I have very little knowledge, so I'm sure that adds many more layers to this whole series. I've caught enough to know to go look up the references a lot of the times, and they do add to the novel, but I'm sure that I've missed many more and not catching a reference doesn't lessen your understanding or enjoyment. These books are extremely smart, deep, thoughtful, and full of scholarly references while also being extremely accessible which is very hard to do. This one had less pop culture than Gideon with a darker tone and different overall voice showing the distinctions between the characters very well while still fitting into this world. 

If you liked Gideon go read Harrow because everything I read seems to get better and better!
