It's so cute! My friend and I picked it up and started reading it out loud. It's just fun to say the nonsense, and imagine a bunch of birds shouting out "FROODLE!" in the middle of suburbia.
This one was cute, but harder to do with the larger story time group. Would definitely use at the preschool instead.
The little brown bird no longer wants to day peep, so he lets loose with different nonsense words. I liked this as a read aloud, because it used a variety of bird noises (in addition to the fun words)—caw, coo, etc. this would work well in a collection for encouraging kids to express themselves.
Fantastic book about marching to the beat of your own drummer and trying new things, even if they might get you laughed at. Children will love the silly words and relate to the little brown bird's struggle to be brave. Could spark some very thoughtful discussions.
Love the flow of the text with the illustrations, has good message about thinking outside the box.
LOVE LOVE LOVE - this book made me decide to do birds at my storytime next week.
My students loved this book! Funny and silly. And a great way to look at trying something new.
But be warned, it doesn’t make a great read aloud just because of the speech-bubble style. It didn’t seem to bother my students though!

The crow was a strange choice of character. Is because he's the biggest bird? Is because he's all one color? The line that just gets me is this: "Everyone knows there is no such thing as a silly black crow!" Really? Since when?

One day, Little Brown Bird does not want to say "peep" any more. He now says "Froodle!"
His friends Crow, Cardinal, and Dove don't know what to do about him and wonder if they can be silly, too!
