the flow of each story was really interesting and the retelling of old folktales/fairytales were unique— overall an interesting text to look at through a feminist perspective

I can’t really tell whether I liked this or not. It was easy to read and I did want to keep reading once I had started but I don’t really have a clear opinion on the content yet.
It was okay I guess.

This was a great fairy tale retelling book. It was incredibly unique and interesting and I had a wonderful time figuring out which story belonged to what fairy tale and seeing how beautifully they connected.
I can't say enough how much I loved the original take on all of these stories. It was so refreshing and comforting even though most of these stories don't have fairy tale endings, or endings at all.
It's really hard to say which story was my favorite. They all had parts that I'm glad I got to experience.
The writing in this is actually nice to read. It's very different from any other author I've read and in the best way possible. The format itself of the book was also nice to read. It's huge print, and dialect isn't quoted, but just in the paragraphs. I thought it would annoy me at first, but honestly it somehow seems like that's the most acceptable way this story could have been told.
Spoiler Something that was my favorite about these tales is probably the most cliche thing to be liking about them: the fact that a good number of these "princesses" we were following were lesbians. It wasn't all in your face or screaming FEMINIST POWER! It was just a thing. It was just who they were, almost as if it was an afterthought of their personality their author created, except seemed very crucial to the story at the same time.

My only issue with this book was I felt like it dragged ever so slightly with some of the stories. Not all, but it can take a while to be able to catch on with the stories themselves. But that's just a minor issue that I think could have been solved if I actually read this over a shorter amount of time instead of it taking me literally two months to read.
Awesome book, did not expect it to be so. I totally recommend if you're into retellings and/or LGBTQ representation.

I really liked this, especially the second half. Though flawed (maybe just a bit outdated) it was often entrancing and I got very absorbed in and fascinated by her take on famous fairy tales.

Beautiful, savory collection of short fairy tale retellings about witches and self-determination and finding your own power in the world.
