I had this book on my shelf for the longest time. And wasn't that a mistake - it was so good I wish I picked it up sooner
This is a short romance, a love-at-first-week type deal.
Bree has moved because of an incident that has shown her who her boyfriend was, what her family will support, and that she needed to get away from them.
Drew has always lived in this small town and apparently, he has a reputation. Both of them just off a breakup must survive a hurricane together
Just super cute! The banter was good, and the enemies to lover storyline - great
I don't believe there is any spice though - it's a fade to black if anything type situation - still good- we don't need to break our backs with every romance

3.5/5 For the most part I feel indifferent towards this book. it was a cute, fun read that had an animal subplot that I really enjoyed. I did really like the character arc for Brie but at the same time it felt very much like she only got her confidence because she got the guy. There were also things that I felt were too obvious, and maybe a little squeezed in.
Over all I don’t regret reading it, will probably read the rest in the series but I’m not super invested in it.

More like a 3.5.
I love Meg Cabot, but this book was a little meh for me. It kinda dragged towards the end. I like Bree, but her chemistry with Drew was a little rushed. I liked Drew a lot but I didn't know if I totally believed his sudden attraction to Bree. It still had a lot of humor and heart from the quirky town locals that Meg is known for, but this felt a little flat to me. It's why I set it down after reading about 3/4 that I got bored (I've been doing that a lot with books).
I'm still going to read her books since they are my fav. So we'll see what the next book in this series brings.

medium-paced
Ugh. I normally love Meg Cabot's books but this one was not good. The main characters were so...dumb. I lived in New Orleans for 4 years and no one with good sense messes around with hurricanes like these characters chose (chose!!) to do. The main character was so unbelievably stupid it was hard to root for her. And why did she hate the male lead? Unclear. I can't give it 1 star because I did really like the setting and some of the quirkier elements (like all the dogs having the same name) made me smile, but ultimately this was a hard pass for me. I don't think I'll be picking up the next one.
Audiobook listen.
I've never read anything by Meg Cabot but I have seen Princess Diaries at least 100 times.
This was fine, not anything great but a fun book to pass the time. The writing was pretty good, the story was well paced, if maybe a little too quick. Pretty tame as far as love scenes go, nothing horribly graphic. The romance in the story was a bit fast paced to the point of being slightly unbelievable. Maybe that's how quickly feelings develop in a stressful situation? There wasn't a ton of character development but I still really enjoyed the characters.
I will continue with the series as they come out but only through my library. It was a fun book, quick listen but I don't need to own them.

Another awesome book by Meg Cabot! As a Florida resident who has been through many hurricanes that were category 1 to ones that have destroyed our town, this book was relatable. I loved how we learned about new characters and hear some characters from the rest of the series. I ended up reading this series out of order and loved it!
It's pretty cringey. I have no problems with predictably, but this didn't seem very thought out. It was a fast read, but the dialogue and story were hard to believe. Also, lots of very tough topics to handle all at one go.
