THIS IS HOW YOU WRITE A ROMANCE. the perfect balance of plot and love and character development. not a half-assed plot with a poorly written smut scene inserted between plot points.

god bless meg cabot tbh.

I always enjoy Meg Cabot’s books, and this one was no exception. Her characters are quirky and fun, and the love interests are pretty good.

In this book, Bree has relocated from NYC to Little Bridge Island, a small island community in southern Florida. A hurricane is headed straight for the island, and most of the residents evacuate, while Bree chooses to remain.

When I read the synopsis of the book, I thought that the hurricane would have a much bigger part of the story than it did. There was a lot of buildup, and then it was like, “oh, it wasn’t as bad as everyone was saying.” It felt a little anticlimactic.

Drew was not my favorite of Cabot’s heroes, but he was pretty fun to read about. As far as their romance, it was a bit instalove-y, but they did have some sweet moments.

I really liked how both characters love animals (especially dogs).

MADE ME WANT TO GO (BACK) TO KEY WEST

A really good feel good romance if you want something easy and fun to read. Definitely a good beach read and the characters are cute.

Bree Beckham decides to start her life over and finds herself in the sleepy little island town, Little Bridge. Only problem is that Little Bridge is right directly in the pathway for a major hurricane. Rather than evacuate like any sane person would, she and a select few other Island regulars decide to stay back and wait it out. One of these others being the handsome and reckless Drew Hartwell who is known for being a bit of a heartbreaker. The two find themselves checking around houses for any pets left behind in the storm, and they find they’ve got quite the chemistry together.

If you know this author, then you know Meg Cabot’s got a habit of writing really lighthearted and fun romances. This was no exception. I thought it was a quick, decent read. If we’re being honest, I was a little bored in the beginning. Towards the end I was rooting for the two main characters to get together, but this is by no means my new all time favorite romance book ever written.

~ 3.5 ~

Loved reading this book! I really enjoyed the prep and the clean up for the hurricane, because it's not a real hurricane, so I can enjoy it!

I have enjoyed every Meg Cabot book I’ve read, so I was excited to get a jump on this one. It was even more amusing when the hurricane-watch news from the book was matching up with my Facebook feed from friends in Florida! Yikes!

Without spoiling anything, there were a few character quirks, and at least one complete character, who surprised me a little with their appearance in the story. I’m glad this is the first book in a series so hopefully we can find out more about these unexpected developments. I also enjoyed the descriptions of life on the island, including their homes and the type of people who lived there.

Overall, I’d give this one 3 out of 5 stars. Nothing I had to think too much about, but a pleasant read for a few hours of entertainment. I’d never turn down a chance to read a book by Meg Cabot, with her chatty, engaging writing style.
