Thank you for sharing your story with us, Mara. I’ve been meaning to read your memoir and it took me 2 years but I finally got to it. And I loved it :)
I freaking loved this book. I was NOT expecting it to make me emotionally unstable like it did, but god...I loved this book. I just wanted to reach into it and give Mara a hug. Her chapter "Dear Matilda" made me sob. If you're a fan of hers, you should give this book a read.
Nice enjoyable read. There are a few chapters that I zoned out on but overall I like the memoir.
Delightful, funny, lovely, heartbreaking, sweet. I love Mara Wilson. Her openness, humor, humility, and solid writing made this a fun, fast, great read.
This should be required reading for all the 90s kids who, like me, watched Matilda and Mrs. Doubtfire on repeat growing up. Turns out Mara Wilson grew up to be a pretty great writer of essays that made me laugh, cry and smile. I especially enjoyed reading about her reasons for leaving Hollywood behind. It spoke to what it means to be a woman in Hollywood and constantly be judged for your appearance.
Some of these essays were hilarious. Some were poignant. Some were sad. All were good. As weird as it was to be reading about her sex life, I appreciated her candor and honesty about it. I especially appreciated her essay about Robin Williams. He was my favorite actor and I miss him terribly. So, I can only imagine how someone who actually knew him must feel. I'm also glad she was so open about her struggles with mental illness. It needs to be talked about more. It needs to be de stigmatized like she does here.
Overall, this book made me want to rewatch Wilson's films again to relive her life as I remember her. I'm glad I got to know who she is now. She's turned out to be just fine. Good to know our little girl is all grown up and is doing ok!

This was heavier on the “being a person is hard, especially during adolescence” stuff than on what it was like being a child star, and I appreciated it for that because it mirrors who Mara seems to be in real life. I was also glad to have heard her talk so honestly about OCD, anxiety, and depression.
Finished in one day, I love Mara Wilson. So relatable.
This book is so good. Mara Wilson had such an interesting life, and I would recommend listening to the audio book version so you can hear it in her own voice.
I really liked this book! She is a great storyteller and I enjoyed the representation of anxiety and OCD. I thought I would cry more from the other reviews, but all in all it was great.
