A few things. Spoilers, so whatever.
This book had some buzz awhile back so I checked it out. File that in my LIFE REGRETS folder, please.
(1) When you are visiting Mexico NO CONCIERGE IN THE ENTIRE COUNTRY would recommend a moped ride through the shitty parts of town. Good god.
(2) What kind of idiot goes into a shady ass looking café in a foreign country where you don't speak the language?
(3) THIS IS RAPE FICTION. A woman is raped with a knife while tied up in a room full of people. There's even a (second) rape scene where the woman is DTF hours after being brutally violated. What. The fuck.
(4) It's one thing to get a little rough during sex. No biggie. Not really my scene, whatever. But when the "sexy alpha male" is beating the shit out of the woman/drawing blood? Is this really okay with people?
The writing is secondary to the abuse of women (Sex slavery? Multiple rape scenes? Beatings during sex? WHY IS THIS OKAY!?)
I will never be okay with rape fiction, sorry. The writing was also crappy, but in this case I don't fucking care.

Book 1 Monsters In The Dark Series
An amazing, scary, twisted book. I loved this book about a young woman learning to embrace her sexuality even though it is one that some people may not accept or may be uncomfortable with. And the circumstances surrounding her finding her identity were frightening in the extreme. I was on the edge of my seat for this whole book.

This was suprisingly good! I enjoyed the premise, and the scenes were well written. I was a little confused how she got over her hatred of him so quickly, but I digress. I think i will continue this series
Dark... Very dark... but good! Well done, Pepper!
I need more Q, now, please...

AMAZING! Immediately bought book two so I could find out what happens,
This book was not bad but I didn’t like none of the MCs so I won’t continue with this series.
I was kind of hesitant about this going in. It seemed a little forced in the beginning but the more I read the more I realized that she had to set Tess up in that way to get on with the bulk of the story after her abduction. It turned out to be a really good book and I look forward to reading the next one.
oh shut up! ugh ok seriously, im in love with books like this. the setting the story the details its all awesome story for me BUT. this main chick.... no just no. seriously it was so unrealistic i couldn't stop yelling at my kindle "oh shut up" no joke. the part that pissed me off the most was when the victims "break out in applause" because she kicked some guys ass. really dude really? ugh sorry i cant. anyways the stuff that happened were really fucked up, it had serious potential BUT you cant write a book about torture/sex slaves/etc and fill the inbetweens with terrible cheesy love scenes. It just doesnt flow right. I wanted to like the book so bad but i couldnt. i think the book couldve been great but i couldnt get intoo it. ofcourse i continued and bought all 3 books because of amazing reviews annd recommendations....lets see
***so i read all 3**** def 1 *

“Three little words: I was sold.”
The book started with Tess’ boyfriend, Brax surprising her with a trip from Australia to Mexico. Vacation seemed to be going pretty well until they decided to stop at a little bar for a drink to cool down. To be honest, if I were Tess and Brax my story would’ve ended right here because if I don’t see anyone else in a bar then I am going somewhere else. But, they go in instead and Brax goes to the bathroom and Tess disappears.
If you are weak at the stomach, then this next section of the book will turn you completely off. I mean seriously, this is not your happy, go-lucky section. You will not feel warm and fuzzy inside. And, if human trafficking makes you feel that way (warm and fuzzy) then maybe you should get your head examined. But, I digress. You will feel sick to your stomach, you will feel disgusted, and you might feel as if you will never want to visit Mexico.
Enter Q.
Q seems to have bought Tess. He is her master. One would think after what happened in Mexico that Tess would be completely broken but this girl has spunk. She still has fight in her and tries her best to not become a shell of her former self. Q sees something special in her and over time Tess sees something in him as well.
“I believed fully I was made for him and he was made for me. Two halves of the same fuckedupness. Two souls from the same twisted desires, unable to fully be free until we found each other.”
I will admit for a while I thought this book was going to turn into a commentary of what happens when people become institutionalized, but it was so much deeper and complex. Somehow in a distorted type of way, Pepper Winters writes a story that we can all relate to if we are brave enough to admit it. I am not meaning that we can understand and/or truly feel the emotions associated with being trafficked but we can understand what it means to be going through the motions and then how it feels to be with that one that allows and welcomes us to be our true self. Tears of Tess lives us to fact that it is considered “dark,” but somehow with every single word, every single paragraph, and every single page, Pepper Winters keeps you wanting more and more.
DISCLAIMER: I received a complimentary copy of Tears of Tess in exchange for an honest review.
