dark mysterious tense

impeccable art, as i remember from reading their work "through the woods" back in 2016. i do feel like i need a reread or two to better piece the story, even if it'd just be my own version of it.

This one just didn't do it for me. I like dark and I like fairy tales, but it was too gory for my tastes and the story didn't quite click.

I love it. Though I do worry about what's going on inside Emily Carroll's head...

Carroll is always ambiguous about what is going on and lets you piece it together. That makes it hard to review without spoilers. The author's patent red, white and black color scheme brings us into a creepy, gothic castle where we join a cat-spirited person and a vampire in a dance of gaslighting and absolute essence. The layers of skin are peeled away as we see a relationship unfold. The ending isn't HEA.

I adore all of Emily Carroll's works.

exquisite drawings, nonsensical storyline.

I get why people are complaining about the story, but that art...
