Incredible. Perfect for the existential girlies.

Also, what a gift to exist at the same time as Julia Whelan audiobooks. That woman tells stories better than I can read.

4.5 stars. I enjoyed this one and found it exceptionally well-written. I liked seeing how Addie’s life was impacted as a result of her soul-selling deal, and enjoyed the mystery of her meeting Henry, the first person in nearly 300 years who is able to remember her. I found the plot with Luc to be slightly rushed, particularly near the end, but I still loved this novel and it so far ranks as one of my favorites this year.

“That time always ends a second before you’re ready.
That life is the minutes you want minus one.”

This was such a well written book and overall beautiful story. I loved the casual queer relationships as it felt very refreshing. I loved the dark elements to the story — who doesn’t love a good devil soul exchange? Speaking of .. LUC! He was written SO WELL. I loved and hated him. This story captures the complexity of emotion, life’s necessary pain and vulnerabilities, the contrast of love vs. possession/obsession, and without spoiling TOO MUCH, the book ended up being so meta! Loved that

I found Henry so relatable and my heart ached and warmed for him. Addie is a beautifully dynamic character and I love how her story is so connected to art itself and how that truly became her way of “leaving her mark,” so to speak.

I was hesitant about reading this, only because it almost felt more contemporary than what Im used to but it was just fantasy enough to keep me in—and boy am I glad. Such a beautiful, yet tragic at times, story.
