This book will forever hold my soul. Just listened for the second time and it’s just as good if not better. Forever favorite.

The first 55% of this book moved slowly and it took me a whole month to get through, but I also read the last 45% in a singular day, so that speaks it for itself probably.

I cried a little bit and I liked it a lot. 3.5/5 but I'm feeling magnanimous so I'll round it up. Tbh, I didn't super understand the main love interest's appeal, but the plot and the prose were delightful.

I had to let myself sleep on this review and I’m still not quite sure how I feel but here goes:

Overall I very much enjoyed this book. The writing was superb, the back and forth between years was something that was easy to follow and something I liked, and the ending was satisfying.

However, there were moments where I wanted to throw it across the room. The characters sometimes made weird decisions. There were twists that didn’t make much sense. And sometimes we spent so long with one character that it felt like we’ve forgotten about the others.

I think I’m rating 4/5 because of the writing because really, it was beautiful and I am looking forward to reading more of Schwab’s work. But something about this book didn’t totally sit right with me.

Overall, I would recommend. It is an interesting story and you won’t be disappointed with the ending by any means.

I do get nervous about heavily hyped books, but this one was completely worth it. I'm a sucker for multiple timelines, and weeing the Addie of the past woven in with the Addie of the present was delightful. The ending won't please everyone, but it certainly wasn't what I expected.

the premise of this book was interesting to me, however it felt extremely slow at times. it took me a very long time to start enjoying the book, because it took so long to pick up. it went through periods of being very slow and drawn out and then fast again. however, i felt the conclusion was a satisfying one for addie and her star-covered cheeks
