This was disappointing. I really enjoyed the TV series and I think that carried me through the first book, but I am afraid the second one couldn’t carry it for me. Perhaps it was the audiobook, but I didn’t find the narrative compelling, and I didn’t really feel connected to the characters. I am mildly interested in what happens next, and I like the idea of the series, but I didn’t feel this was different enough from the first book to merit continuing with the series.

I felt a lot more could have been done with the worldbuilding to build on the foundation of the first book. The problem with a disinterested main character is that it gives a narrow view, and that really limited my enjoyment of this book. The punchlines have already been made in the first, so I just found this repetitive. I will probably continue with the television series, but not the books.

Using these novellas for family trips because they are quick and hilarious. Wells has done a fantastic job writing characters that immediately inspire me to care about them and their unfolding story. The book sits in the category of science fiction, but the relationships that are developing in the midst of the intergalactic adventures have really hooked me into this story.
