AHHHHH I loved this book so much more than I ever expected I would. Magnus, Hearthstone, Blitzen and Sam are probably some of my new all time favorites I just loved this so much
"The thing about fate, Magnus: even if we can’t change the big picture, our choices alter the details. That’s how we rebel against destiny, how we make our mark. What will you choose to do?"

I struggled to finish this. I know many think that Rioridan can do no wrong and that combined with great reviews of Percy Jackson led me to pick this up. I had read the first PJ and remember being underwhelmed so I figured maybe a series focused on Norse mythology would catch my interest more. It has some good moments but I found it slow moving and boring, especially for YA. The main character Magnus grated on my nerves with his self deprecating internal thoughts. The humorous aspects fell flat. Even the Norse mythology didn’t live up to other tales from it or inspired by it. I can acknowledge that it’s a book many love and that is technically well written but it just wasn’t for me at all.
Will I read the next book in the series? No. Barely made it though this one.
Will I read something else by the author? Also no. I gave him two chances and am admitting he’s just not for me.

Uncle Rick just never misses. Nordic mythology is clearly even more bonkers than Greek Roman and Egyptian and I really liked how it makes everything like a joke somewhat. I love Magnus and Annabeth bonding it's what they deserve!!!

The YA writing is a little tough at times but I really loved this book.
The quest is a good plot structure and the characters are all fun.
Good way to learn some stuff about the Norse Gods and I like Riordans approach to using mythology as a catalyst for his books
I'm now going to reread Percy Jackson which should be a treat :)
