I listened to the audio version of this book. Fascinating, but of course, harrowing and heartbreaking, it is a well done book. I may need to revisit it in text form, as I had a bit of a hard time keeping everyone straight just from listening to it. Super interesting and important book.

Be ready to cry and possibly throw up. This book is painful to read. Ive learned of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising from a very shallow perspective but really had no idea the strong presence that Jewish women had among the rescue efforts in Poland. It is so inspiring to know this story. I gave this book 4 stars because it was very hard to follow all of the characters throughout its length. I dont know if that was due to the author’s writing style or just the fact that the main characters are constantly changing as one is executed after another. Either way, it is difficult to follow at times.

This book was very impactful. I was astounded by these women and their strength and courage in choosing to participate in the resistance against the Nazis. Their story was repressed for many years and I'm glad I learned about their bravery and who these women were. So many stories from survivors of the Holocaust are about men, it was refreshing to see women given the spotlight. I did find the writing to be a little confusing because it jumped between so many different women while progressing in chronological order. I couldn't always remember who everyone was but it didn't detract from the narrative. Im hoping a movie is made about these women so their story is heard by more people.

Very inspiring collection of stories. Definitely a tough read in light of the current genocide in Gaza.
I didn't realize how much Zionism had a role in resistance movements during WW2. It is horrifying to see the same violence talked about in this book being played out in front of our eyes in Gaza.
