I'm no Kardashian apologist. But, I saw this on the shelf and thought it might be interesting to read some backstory on the clan and how they rose up from the beginning. This book obviously delves into that, but it's seemingly written for a very specific audience. Do you hate the Kardashians with a passion (he obviously does, especially Kris). Do you think that Robert was just a poor schmuck who just wanted to dress nice, have famous friends, and be loved? Are you scandalized by interracial relationships? Then this is the book for you. Keep in mind that the author was obviously reaching to meet a word count minimum- you'll notice when he keeps repeating the same information over and over again - information like the names of the Kardashian siblings, which face it - if you're reading this book, you already know what they are.

Regardless of your feelings about the subject, this book is awful. The author is repetitive and the whole thing could have used some basic editing. Author is also extremely preoccupied with race and mentions "interracial marriage" several times. You weren't going to read it anyway. Don't.

I read this book to know HOW the Kardashian’s as we know them now came to be. But there were too many side stories, name drops, and irrelevant/repetitive details that I quit with only 40 pages left. It was poorly written, many sentences requiring 2 or 3 glances before I understood what they were trying to say. I feel like someone typed this in a frenzy & sent off the first draft.

As other reviews have mentioned, the author is race-obsessed and every chapter seems to end with a “Bob Kardashian must be rolling in his grave” style anecdote.
That being said it’s a gleeful deconstruction of Kris Jenner’s 2011 “memoir” so if you like trash, this is a safe bet. Who knew even MJ was this ruthless?!

I mean, I have never heard of this family.

A very old school dishy, bitchy "deep background" story of the "Founding Fathers and Mothers" of the Kardashian Clan.
This book was entertaining, the kind of thing you read on a plane and glean like four new facts about celebrities' lives from.
The weird part to me is that the author clearly has so much contempt (and quite frankly, misogyny) towards the whole group that I'm confused why he spent what's likely the better part of a year writing this book (if not more!). If you detest Kim Kardashian and the "Three African American husbands" she married (he finds that remarkable enough to mention more than once using those exact words. Um, hellur, Kris Humphries is mixed race. We don't follow the "one drop rule" in the US any more, Jerry) why did you write a book about her family? Inquiring minds want to know.

To me, (and I could write my own book about this) at this point in the game, if you're hating on the Kardashians, it's sexist. Those women may have started on the bottom rung of fame (leaked bedroom films). They have *actual amazing accomplishments* since then. Fashion lines. Sold out makeup lines. Games and apps. Books. A fashion boutique. A thriving, multi-billion dollar brand and empire. If you "hate" the Kardashians but you have ANY respect for any of the wildcatter billionaires out there or Wall Street bros that made money pushing paper around and ripping off the American public, you're being a jerk. And a hypocrite.

Look, the Kardashians are tacky. They're flashy. They're in your face. We wish they weren't "America's Real First Family". But this is the "krew" that truly represents the American dream: immigrate to this bountiful land, start a biz, get rich, and grab fame by the throat and make it work for you.

And long may it wave. :)
