With monkeypox and avian flu taking shape, this was a difficult but necessary read on how we must educate our neighbors, prepare for any future outbreaks, and continue to hold our government officials accountable for doing the same.
Very good account of not only Ebola, but other filoviruses as well, and the Reston outbreak that very well could have released an airborne filovirus in the United States. Well worth the read.

Ik was dit boek beginnen lezen in 2019 net voor de covid pandemie en moest het lezen stop zetten, maar nu in 2025 toch uitgelezen!
Het was echt een informatief boek en ik heb genoten om meer te lezen over ebola en marburg. Het was wel nog steeds een beetje creepy om te lezen over virussen en de possibilities dat ze hebben om mensenlevens af te nemen. Zeker aangezien de ebola mutatie die aan bod kwam airborn is. Gelukkig is deze mutatie enkel dodelijk voor apen, maar nog steeds wel een beetje eng omdat ik na het lezen toch wel moet nadenken aan het feit dat dit virus mogelijks zou kunnen muteren en wel dodelijk kunnen worden voor mensen. Dit zou dan mogelijks honderden jaren duren voordat dit werkelijkheid is, maar het doet me echt denken aan wat er allemaal in de natuur en wilde dieren leeft.

This book was a very tough read....

This book will remind you that you should be very scared of infectious disease
We really be living in fear and shit. The metaphor of humans being a virus for earth and AIDS and other NTDs being the earth’s immune response to us was INSANE. fuck deforestation
