Dramatic, daring and a little more deadly than a typical book in this series, I seriously enjoyed this one.

This is an interesting series. It kind of reminds me of the Ladies #1 Detective Agency series, in that you get a lot of the thoughts of the main character, some culture or history thrown in, with a little mystery. I will probably read a few more. I do love reading series!

A bit darker in subject matter than some of the other books in the Brother Cadfael series, but all the more realistic for that.

Spoiler
I also really liked the subtle introduction of Cadfael's son considering how many times Miriam has been mentioned. I'm pretty sure that he won't be seen again in the series, but it was touching nonetheless. All the more so since Cadfael didn't make a big deal out of it. He didn't tell the boy; he just privately exulted in the knowledge.Rating reviewed 12/26/2022.

A re-read for me, first time for it on Goodreads. A seasonal offering, and a really good story which is unfortunately smothered by a lot of dull narrative.
