(Side note: I’m very confused by this Bella Forrest writer. She has published almost 100 books in less than 7 years. Anyone else wonder about that? It ha to be some conglomerate or group of writers doing the writing.)
Anyway, the Harley Merlin book is okay. It’s exactly what you would expect from a quickly written story trying to be the “adult Harry Potter series.”
It’s not bad, it’s just poorly written at times and plays into a lot of the formulas that JK Rowling used in HP.
If you have an itch for “orphan discovers he/she is a magician and joins a group to discover what exactly that means, while trying to fight an unimaginably strong enemy” story...then go ahead and read this book.
Otherwise, go back to your HP books.

Harry Potter fanfic.
World building could have been good but the writing was just bad and it was a straight remaking of Harry Potter (1000 points for the San Diego coven!). I finished it to see where the ending went but I wouldn't recommend wasting your time when there is so much GOOD urban fantasy out there

I mean, decent young adult story but VERY Harry Potter-esque. Not going to lie, I’m going to read book 2.
This book has been blowing up my Amazon account for awhile now and I could not resist checking it out. It was advertised as the next Harry Potter, so I delved into it with high hopes.
This story is different from Harry Potter. Aside from the fact that the main character is an orphan with magical powers and there is a point system at her educational institution, the story is original and should not be compared to something else.
I have never read Forrest before, but I was pleasantly surprised to find a new author that I enjoyed reading in one of my favorite genres.
The story was easy to read, magically entertaining and all the characters were unique and intriguing. I also appreciate that the potential love interests are a VERY slow burn.
At this point in the series, I have no complaints. It was a pleasurable reading experience and I look forward to seeing what happens in the next installment.
If you are looking for a mysterious and enchanting read then check out this story.

Slow Slow burn I do not like not finishing books but for the better first half of this book I really wanted to just give up on it but I am glad I did not the second half of the book was very good and got me very interested in continuing the series as a whole. I definitely recommend this book. It gets a bad rep and I think from the first half that is understandable but if you stick with it it is definitely a good book.
First I would like to say this is a perfect fall read and I should’ve waited a bit. Once I started this I couldn’t put it down. I adored Harley from the time she delivered her first sarcastic one liner. She was so independent and bad ass. The entire ensemble was just so relatable and loveable. The magic system was very well done in my opinion and it never felt like the information was just dumped on you. That being said I was never lost about how the magic worked which is why I thought the author did such a good job. Plot wise I was on the edge of my seat and couldn’t read fast enough. I’m also a sucker for angst which was definitely felt in this one. I will definitely be continuing with this series.
