So much fun!!!
This is a new series and new-to-me author. I LOVE IT! I laughed and laughed over the snarky mental comments Harley makes!
Finding out magic is real makes you adjust your thinking... add to that witches, covens, murder, mayhem, and a cute guy or two and you are poised for adventure, but only if the book is well written, and this one is!!!
Once I got a couple chapters into it I did not want to put it down, so I did not!
After finishing it last night I had that momentary panic of, "What do I read next?" Then my heart settled when I remembered this is the first in a series - Yay me! š

Very good book
Feels like a mixture of magic of Harry potter, relationships divergent, and the quirkiness of sookie stackhouse books š

I really loved the ending to this book, but since I didn't particularly like the very beginning is why I am only giving it 4 stars
Very entertaining. Hoping that the happenings don't continue to resemble HP SO much. But I kinda don't hate that either. Feels nostalgic, but in an updated way.
Interesting
This book was a quick read for me. For some reason this gave me Magnum P.I. biebs with a supernatural twist.

This book follows Harley Smith (Merlin later with a reveal
I generally am not a fan of first person novels but I really enjoyed this book. A lot of Harry Potter vibes. The last ~100 pages were the best. Will definitely read the next in the series.
Things kept happening
This book kept me wanting to read it. There were things that kept happening throughout the story that kept me captivated.

I definitely felt an HP influence, but thereās a unique feel to it as well.
I liked Harley right off the bat. Sheās smart, she works hard, and sheās taught herself how to use her abilities to her advantage. As an empath, she actually experiences the feelings of others, which I could see being frustrating. She deals with that throughout the book, and relies on the emotions she picks up to read others. That part has to come in handy, at least.
āMy abilities didnāt come with an instruction manual, so I had to do my best with trial and error.ā
I liked that thereās some hints of chemistry in the story, but that it isnāt a main focus. Donāt get me wrong, I do enjoy romance as part of a story, but it isnāt always necessary ā Harley has so much new information and change being thrown at her, I felt like adding a romantic relationship to her arc would have detracted from her personal growth.
Orphan with magical abilities seemed like a great setup for The Chosen One, but instead, Harley walked right into a Found Family trope. She doesnāt know anything about her birth family, but in the coven, she finds her own version of family amongst people with abilities like her own. I loved that her group of people is diverse, with different cultures and their various magical traditions represented and respected.
I wonāt say that this book is a literary masterpiece, and after reading it, I realized that the author seems to consistently put out new books fairly quickly. However, it was enjoyable, kept my attention hooked, and regularly surprised me with the twists and turns of the story. It was a fun read and Iām already looking forward to reading the next book in the series!
