This was a fun story. Reminiscent of Harry Potter but a bit more mature. Looking forward to the next installment and how Harley grows in her magic

Couldn't put it down

Great YA read!

Endearing characters and good plot - great YOu g Adult read! Looking forward to reading more Harley Merlin in the future.

Entertaining. A little to "potteresque" in the "reward points" system, but I like the books. The characters drew me to them.

It definitely felt like it stole some plots from Harry Potter. The main character was kind of annoying. Maybe I am just sick of the tough, on her own with no family, always a smart ass, beautiful and adored by all the guys but always has “witty” remarks to leave them flabbergasted, uniquely special and better than everyone, never wrong girls.

Harley Merlin can sense people’s emotions, among other things. It’s how she snagged her first job pinpointing cheaters at a casino.

But she has no clue where she got these freakish powers because she spent her childhood jumping from home to home in the foster system, and her father left her with nothing more than a cryptic note.

Then she crosses paths with a terrifyingly real monster. Which is when a mysterious and annoyingly arrogant young warlock named Wade Crowley steps in, introducing her to a hidden world of beasts, magicals, and covens riddled with secrets—as well as clues about her murky past.

Whether she likes it or not, this new world is where she belongs. But after a disturbing twist of events, Harley quickly realizes that her past is darker than she could ever have imagined.

Absolutely should NOT be compared with Harry Potter (which it is and which is why I read it). It's an OK read despite having rather too much 'American High School' bickering but completely lacks Rowling's genius. Having said that, I still passed a few pleasant hours reading it and will probably read the next in the series (especially as it's free on Kindle Unlimited).

Great start!

Happy to find a great first book to a series. Signed up for Kindle Unlimited cause I know I’m going to devour everything by this author!

I picked this up as a buddy-read with a few friends because we were intrigued by the idea of an empath in a fantasy setting. It's an easy and even enjoyable read if you don't mind a predictable plot and characters who all sound the same (seriously, even the adults sounded like teens). I thought this book had a lot of potential but I'm sorely disappointed.

I went in completely blind just knowing it was Urban Fantasy that was it.

Now I don’t do well with magic or witches and this well it has both… But… I loved it. I liked Harley from the get go. I liked that she doesn’t know exactly what she is but that she knows she is different and she learned to use it to her advantage.

She meets Wade and through him she finds her place in this world that didn’t make much sense before its starting to. She is learning there is more to her talents than meets the eye and with training she may become better. She is learning about her family, not all of it good but it was more than she had before.

The book has a lot of world building but I didn’t mind it so much because it was easy to follow along. I think the next books are going to give us more insight into this coven and just how they all work.

I really enjoyed Amanda’s narration. I think if it had been any other narrator I don’t think I would have been sucked in the way I was.
