Ok what the actual fuck was that?? I’m so confused and I liked so much of it but like damn! Pacing’s a bitch, lore’s kinda all over the place, and the first 350 pages are just intro? Then the big climatic scene happens in like 20 pages??

But I like so much of it! I like that it’s real and raw and that all the POVs are different races and sexualities and….just different. I like the incorporation of real world stuff turned magic.

I want to read the next one but I’m not sure my brain is ready for the next round of WTF? yet. I’ve never liked and disliked a book at the same time so much. Worth a read but also headache inducing. 3.5⭐️

Een weinig subtiel boek, vol passie en boosheid. Maar dat is dan waarschijnlijk ook de bedoeling.
Interessant boek :)

I honestly don’t know what I just read. I just know it was absolutely one of the best books I’ve read in my life and I need more of it.

The idea behind cities being personified seemed so odd and for the first 70-80 pages I was still trying to figure out what the hell I was reading. But I couldn’t put it down. There is something so compelling about the birth of a city and the avatar that represents each borough that pulled me deeper and deeper into the story. Each one discovering who they were and how vital they are to the survival of the city at the same time learning of the birth and destruction of other cities. With a dash of the multiverse. Just incredible.

N.K. Jemisin has created a spectacular world here and I am anxiously awaiting the next book.
