Set on You

A light, easy read that had its charming moments, but didn’t leave much of a mark. I appreciated what it tried to say, but the story didn’t quite land the way I hoped. It kept things safe when it could’ve gone deeper. Enjoyable in parts, just not all that memorable.

I loved this book! So many swoony moments filled with love, laughter, and loads of emotion!

3.5 ✨ I did really enjoy this book. I was expecting more enemies to lovers but the nemesis aspect only lasted for about the first 25% of the book. I really enjoyed the last 50% of the book and absolutely adored them as a couple! Scott is super swoon worthy and hot as shit. I also loved the authors plot, I think the plot definitely stood out a bit more than the romance. I loved the family characters and the main characters career, there was definitely a lot of attention to detail. I’m excited to pick up this authors books in the future!

Set on You was such an ambitious romcom - and it really paid off. Beside a swoony romance with characters to root for, great chemistry, and the right amount of steam, Set on You is all about self acceptance, respecting our boundries, and let people in to lighten the burdens we deal with. Crystal Chen being bi-racial was an addition that made my heart so happy and hopeful. I love seeing more and more diversity and representation in stories.

I liked the first half of the book, where all was light and fun, and me being a couch potato myself, I was happily surprised how much I enjoyed this gym setting. But I wasn’t really prepared for the second half of the book. I guess I hadn’t realize how Crystal could be both bold and strong and vulnerable and full of self doubt at the same time. So, in a way, I was learning the same lessons along with Crystal. But! I really missed interaction with Scott in the second half, which made sense for the plot, but not for the romance part of the book.

Now I can’t wait to read Exes and O’s, the next book that’s about Crystal’s bookworm sister Tara and closet romantic Trevor. Both made an appearance in Set on You and if they’re half as great as Crystal and Scott, I’m going to be very, very happy.

my fault for giving this shit a chance

Wild that there are now books about Instagram influencers.

I do like that there are books about different beauty standards etc. I don’t remember reading any like that when I was a teenager

SO HOT AND CUTE!

A perfectly passable read, especially for a debut. I liked Crystal’s self esteem, I did not like all of Crystals’s choices and I am really sick of the body positivity movement (isnt it a bit self-absorbed?). Glad I know I am not interested in the sister’s trite little journey and I certainly don’t think there is much to learn from men/exes. God I hate the need for external validation from Instagram! I cannot think of a job worse than “influencer”
