Great book that draws you in and makes you want to see what comes next. Didn’t expect myself to be rooting for a bee or ending up researching various parts of hives.
The pace of the plot and issues in the hive keep you on your toes, very well written.

My current reading mood:
Why do I keep picking up books compared to The Handmaid’s Tale when I know I don’t like that type of dystopian read?
We’ll never know I suppose, because I’m abandoning yet another one.

The Bees by Laline Paul-4.5/5. Another review I will preface by saying this books is not for everyone. However, I found it fascinating. Entirely written from a bee's point of view. Scientifically accurate, and also just amazing storytelling.

I just couldn't finish this one. I am sort of perplexed by the great reviews. I never would have picked up a book told from the point of view of a bee, but the reviews made this book sound amazing so I gave it a whirl. The book is well-written, and I wanted to like it, but I couldn't figure out if this was a dystopian novel trying to teach me a lesson or just a book about a hive of bees. Unfortunately these bees weren't compelling enough to make me finish. I just asked my friends what happened.
What a delightful and lighthearted read! The description of this book as a cross between Margaret Atwood's 'The Handmaid's Tale,' and bees is not only applicable but pleasant. From beginning to end, Laline Paull has the reader engaged in the world of the hive, from its sense of cult-ish mystery to its sense of wonder and adventure. A wonderful read.

An absolutely fabulous read; got a little bit of everything, you just want Flora 717 to triumph. No spoilers just get this read as soon as you can.
I'm definitely going to look out for more Laline Paull novels.
