This is my second time reading this book. It came out at the beginning of 2020, and I loved it then. This second time didn’t make it any less. Maas has a way of reaching inside my chest and ripping my heart out. I swear I cry in every one of her books. If you’ve read her other series, you’ll know she sticks to a lot of the same tropes, and this one isn’t an exception. However, this is definitely one of the strongest friendships she’s ever had. The relationship between Bryce and Danika is amazing. Even though there is a romance story, Danika is Bryce’s person. It’s so incredible to see this relationship.

The plot starts out kind of slow. Maas does a humongous info dump in the first 100-200 pages or so. But then after that, it picks up quickly and you won’t want to put it down. I’m so excited and anxious for the next book in this series. I highly recommend to fantasy and/or romance fans.

Overall, this book is fine but nowhere near the writing and storytelling of ACOTAR or TOG. My least favorite book from SJM, so far.

This was so long for no reason, and the information dump was a lot to digest. All of the SJMisms were so blatant in this book. All of the characters felt like a diluted mix of characters I’ve met in her other books. The wording and phrases were repetitive, and it felt like SJM was copying and pasting straight from her other books. Maybe if I read this before ACOTAR or TOG, the story would be fresh and enjoyable. However, it was so predictable. Hunt and Bryce are a knock off of another couple in TOG but without the love and depth.

The writing is so cringy and too try hard at times.

The last 150 pages were interesting, but getting there was slow. I’ll still read the next books because I know SJM, and her book series start with a weaker first book and get so much better :((

4.90⭐️This book was SO GOOD omg can't wait to read hosab! Idk if this is a 5 star read but it's not a 4 star read but it's REALLY close to a 5 star so that's the rating i'm giving it now. If you're struggling reading this just continue and pretend that you know what's going on because this is now one of my fav books.

Update: Can't stop thinking about this damn book and already want to re-read it so 5 stars it is

A while back, I originally soft DNF’d this book but multiple people convinced me to give it another chance. While I know this is a wildly popular book, I struggled with it even my second time through. In the first 100 pages, Bryce is a party girl and there is mention of drugs and alcohol which I find to be just too much and her attitude about everything was …a lot. I found it quite frustrating. I honestly didn’t feel invested in the book until the last 200 to 300 pages which is rough since it was over 800 pages long. I never felt like I could connect to Bryce, although I did like Hunt and some of the side characters. I am going to continue on with the series and I’m hoping maybe in the second book, I will connect better to the characters since I already know them.

For me personally, I really liked the world build and system. The first chapters have a lot of info, but once you get past that it's good, it had elements of surprise, twists I could not foresee (might be bc im blind
