Knapp was a wonderful writer. I loved her book “Pack of Two,” and I love her ability to analyze and describe relationships and people. The subject of this book - alcoholism - is less relevant to me, but I still was completely absorbed by the rich personal story-telling.

Interesting read. I struggle with recovery memoirs, as most don't resonate with me. Although A Million Little Pieces was exaggerated and at times marginally truthful, it unpacked for me a different side of addiction, treatment, and recovery that I related to.
I respect the author's experiences but I found no emotional connection for me.

A really interesting biography of Knapp--her struggle against booze and an eating disorder, and her ways of maintaining both at once. She's a really good writer.

I've read a few memoirs about drinking, but this is the first that made me consider my own flirtation with liquid love. Knapp is an excellent writer and a keen observer of our obsessive-compulsive society. I debated about giving this book 4 stars.

Really well done.

This is a moving memoir of addiction and how it can happen to anyone. It is often hard for non-addicts to understand the plight of addicts or the factors which caused them to fall into the shackles of substance abuse. Even people with seemingly normal lives can fall victims to addiction. Caroline had a seemingly normal life. I want to stress on the word 'seemingly' here, because can we really tag a life as 'normal' without actually living through it? Caroline is smart, but shy; talented but insecure. She craves compassion, but is afraid to ask for it. She learns only one way to overcome her shyness and insecurity, one that lies in the depths of a bottle of alcohol. She does eventually overcome alcoholism, but the journey is painful and challenging. Caroline tells us about how she fell into addition and how she swam out of it. It was so nice to see her overcome her addiction.

Audiobook

This is a powerful read. It is stunning that she wrote it so early in recovery.
