Can’t wait to go to her book talk at the end of the month. Every time I think I am burned out on WWII fiction, Kate reels me back in!

I really enjoyed this book. The character development and personal relationships.

The end was not my favorite, but it was a solid historical fiction. I only know a little about the Russian perspective during WWII, so learning about this real lady sniper was interesting.

Not only could I not put this book now, but I loved how much of it came directly from Milas memoir. An incredible story of strength, love and friendship

I started this and stopped. Continued and stopped. Not because I couldn’t get into it, but because the writing was so powerful. I then got the audiobook and it was sheer pleasure to listen to this complicated story. So, much deception. A riveting story. There is so much raw passion in this main character. Her determination, her drive, her loyalty, her outrage, her love, her sense of honor & duty make her tough. She is so relatable.

DON’T MISS - is her personal motto.

And it says so much, so succinctly.

While Mila's story was beautifully done, I really didn't enjoy the
parts with the marksman or her first husband Alexi. It made sense finding out afterwards that those were fully fictionalized, because they felt jarring within the rest or the story.
Otherwise, it felt refreshing to read about a complicated war hero who was also a mother and just wanted to be a historian.
